These explore teaching methodologies such as: how to teach speaking, writing, reading, grammar, pronunciation, vocabulary and function; how to analyse language; how to teach adults in a variety of contexts; lesson planning; how to adapt and create classroom materials; factors affecting motivation, cultural backgrounds and learning styles.

English language teaching at International House Sydney is based on Communicative Language Teaching methodology. The central principles that surround this approach to language teaching are based on students being very active and engaged in the classroom. Lessons are ‘student-centred’, allowing students to participate fully and discover English with their teacher facilitating this process. For learning to be successful, students must be motivated, and by encouraging and engaging our students, we achieve very positive learning outcomes.
Be 18 years old or over
Have a standard of education required for entry into higher education
Have an awareness of language, and a competence in both written and spoken English
( NB: Non-native speakers with an overall CEFR C1+ level )
A pre-course interview will assess your potential to develop the skills required to pass the course
You are assessed throughout the course on your:
6 hours of teaching practice (includes lesson planning, classroom teaching and self-evaluation)
4 written assignments (between 750- and 1000 words each), and overall professionalism
There is no final examination

Certificate IV in TESOL at International House Sydney has passed the high quality tests to receive the NEAS Endorsed ELT Qualification status.
TESOL introduces you to current teaching methods, practical teaching ideas and a range of resources. It is designed for non-native speakers who want to learn more about the field of teaching and enter the English language teaching profession. No teaching experience is required. Our training methodology is communicative. In practical terms, this means that trainees are engaged with each other in collaborative tasks.

Get dual qualifications in both Certificate IV in TESOL and ETYL-TECSOL in 16 weeks. This double qualification gives you the knowledge and skills to teach both adult and younger learners with greater speed and at less cost than if undertaken as separate courses.

This course prepares students to teach English to children aged 4 –12 years.
English Teaching Younger Learners (ETYL/TECSOL) CRICOS course code: 053722E
Accredited by NEAS, this TECSOL course prepares participants to teach English to children 4 to 12 years of age. It is available to students with an Intermediate English level. It will help students develop their language skills, and introduce teaching methodology and activities for teaching younger learners. Peer teaching and observation are also key aspects of this course. Participants can also gain real teaching experience through optional work experience programmes in accredited pre-schools.
